Qualifications & Professional Development
A foundation in technology, business and education.
My background in technology didn’t begin with FRUKIT.
I first studied computing in the 1980s, gaining a BTEC National Diploma in Computer Studies from Canterbury College of Technology in 1988. I then spent many years working across different industries, particularly in retail, sales and management, before returning to education and technology in later years.
In 2004 I completed a First Class BA (Hons) in Business Studies, followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Secondary) and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in 2005.
I subsequently spent ten years teaching full-time in English schools and Further Education colleges, with approximately 75% of my teaching focused on Information and Communications Technology and 25% on Business Studies.
Teaching technology to people with very different abilities and levels of confidence became a particularly important part of my experience. It taught me that knowing how something works is only half the job; being able to explain it clearly and help someone feel confident using it is just as important.
Professional development continued alongside teaching, including further study through the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education and Cambridge Education.

A little more than certificates
Qualifications tell only part of the story.
My working life has included retail, sales, management, education, technology, online business and plenty of things that don’t fit neatly into a qualification list. That variety is actually one of the things I value most about my background.
FRUKIT isn’t based on knowing everything.
It’s based on knowing how to work things out, knowing how to explain them, and being honest when something is outside my expertise.
If I can help, I’ll help.
If I need to research it, I’ll research it.
And if I can’t provide the right solution, I’ll help you find someone who can.
There is always a next step.
